Started supporting West Ham this year as a 9 year old, thought we challenged for the league title every season!
We do, it's just that most years the challenge is over by August Bank Holiday

may have been match of day for the Chelsea, I'm almost certain I recall being here on a normal Saturday 3pm
tv games from back then tend to stick in my mind as were so rare
anyone remember playing Man United on tv on a friday night? (think it was 2-2)

Man U at home in league was 2nd Feb 86 and also live

I don't think it was, i remember McAvennie doing an interview on London bridge to prove how unrecognisable he was even though he was top scorer in the league. Typical really our best ever year and no cunt saw it

Ipswich (2-1) and the Forest (1-2) game were both on Sportsnight IIRC...

the ban was 85 and ended early 86 (wasn't our game against Charlton at palace the first on tv that season?)
We also had 3 games v Man United televised live in 86 (2-1 win in league Cottee and Ward)
1-1 ans 2-0 win in Cup

That 2-1 Ipswich match had fans from lots of other London clubs, so they would have contributed to your lock out. I remember seeing some gooners going into the South Bank. Someone asked "What are you doing here?" and they just said they had to see if we could do it. At that point, they were rooting for us, just to see a London club challenge Merseyside for the title.
